This project will construct a new facility to expand and relocate the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. The project also includes razing the southeast wing of Seashore Hall, allowing for construction of the new building, which will provide a direct connection to Spence Labs. The remainder of Seashore Hall will be taken down at a later date. 

The new building will include two classrooms, 14 cutting-edge labs for human research, student learning commons, conference rooms, and breakout rooms designed to augment instruction during the day and provide study space in the evenings. The facility also houses faculty offices and graduate student workspace.

The bid opening was held mid-June 2017 with construction start mid-late July 2017, project completion summer 2019, with classes scheduled for fall 2019. On April 21, the Iowa Board of Regents’ granted approval of the description, budget, and schematic design of a new $33.5 million building for psychological and brain sciences and gave the green light to razing a portion of Seashore Hall that currently houses part of that department.
